Mendy Hershkowitz is a musical legend renowned for his talents as an arranger, producer, and bandleader. Through the acclaimed albums he produced and the music he arranged for some of the greatest artists, he has left an indelible mark on the world of Jewish music. Mendy's dedication to music began with his formal education, where he studied music theory under the mentorship of Marty Laskin in Westchester. He understood how a strong foundation in music theory is important to master the intricacies of the language of music.
His musical ventures include live performances nationwide, such as the iconic HASC concerts. Each of his unforgettable live shows is a testament to his ability to craft a complete musical experience that deeply engages his audience. Driven by a relentless commitment to innovation and advancement, Mendy founded the Mendy Hershkowitz Band. Mendy Hershkowitz's unwavering dedication to his craft and profound love for music continues to shape the world of Jewish music. By imparting his knowledge, Mendy is now helping others on their musical journeys.
Marty Laskin Marty Laskin comes from a very musical family. His grandfather, Samuel, was a cantor, composer, and choir director. Samuel’s two sons, Harry and Seymour, both became professional musicians: Harry, a pianist and accordionist, Seymour, Marty’s father, a clarinetist, saxophonist, flutist, and band leader.
Marty’s early entry into the world of professional music was as a singer in his grandfather’s choir.
He was five years old. He started performing professionally as a saxophonist in his father’s band at age eleven.
He then went on to receive degrees from Columbia University and Long Island University in Music and Music Education.
In the course of his career, he has been active as a performing and recording artist in the jazz, classical, musical theatre, and Jewish music genres. He has been active as a teacher for fifty years.
